A new Save-A-Lot supermarket is opening in Lafayette Square, addressing the neighborhood’s grocery needs. Located at the former Foodland plaza, which was redeveloped by Green Street St. Louis and renamed Jefferson Commons, the 17,678-square-foot store offers fresh produce and more. Green Street undertook extensive renovations and redevelopment, including a new roof and other improvements, with a total cost of $8 million. Financing involved private equity, a loan from People’s National Bank, New Market Tax Credits, and $1.7 million in Tax Increment Financing. The project created numerous jobs, with a focus on sustainability, including solar panels. Green Street aims for LEED certification for the development.
